This Florence accommodation is one of several apartments in an elegant building located on a street called via delle Belledonne, close to the Duomo in Florence. Exterior Description
This palazzo was constructed during the first half of the 14th century, at a time when Florence had begun to expand beyond the boundaries of the ancient Roman nucleus. It was commissioned by Messer Lapo, a member of the Aldobrandinis - a wealthy family who made their fortune in the spice business. At that time, via delle Belledonne was a main commercial artery leading out of the city - it connected the Mercato Vecchio (market square) and via Strozzi to the Porta del Trebbio, the city door that opens a path to the north. In the 19th century, the palazzo housed several painters' workshops, including that of the celebrated artist Ingres. The artists' need for light is probably the reason why most of the apartments have very large windows.

Interior Description
(67 m2) Second floor (with lift): This delightful apartment has two levels and is very quiet.
First level: This level consists of a small entrance hall decorated with trompe l'oeil. Two steps lead into a large sitting room that has a double sofa-bed, a two-person sofa, and armchairs. The sitting room windows overlook the prestigious Antinori Garden, which has a large, lovely magnolia tree. On one wall, there is a beautiful, Moorish-style fresco of citrus trees. On the opposite wall there is a large wardrobe and a chest of drawers. There is also a small kitchen, and an alcove serves as a dining room. The dining room table seats 4-6 people.
Second level: A wooden staircase leads up to the loft bedroom, which has a queen size bed (this can be made into two twin beds on request), a spacious wardrobe, and a series of pretty prints decorating the walls. A door decorated with a trompe l'oeil curtain leads into the white and green bathroom, which has a skylight, tub (with hand-held shower head), and heated towel rails. There is also a single sofa bed that can be used for an additional charge.
