Waterfall & wildlife sanctuary: Khao Soi Dao Wildlife Sanctuary and Khao Khitchakut National Park protect the last area of mountain and sub mountain evergreen forest in eastern Thailand, with mountains rising more than 1,000 metres above sea level. Khao Soi Dao has many streams and waterfalls such as Nam Tok Khao Soi Dao. A path runs alongside this beautiful 15 level waterfall, making it easy to explore. The sanctuary is also an important bird watching site for Indochina mountain birds with confirmed sightings of more than 50 bird species, so don’t forget to pack that extra-long telephoto lens. Khao Soi Dao is also the home of Thailand´s largest population of pileated gibbon.

Swimming with dolphins: This is something that many dream of doing, but only a few get to experience. Few have the financial means to travel the globe in search of wild dolphins to swim with, and most are put off by the thought of having to share the dolphin encounter with hundreds of other people in a small wading pool. Although this diluted version may be the only thing on offer in massively overcrowded aqua parks in busy tourist destinations, the real 'swimming with dolphins' dream can come true in the picturesque coastal town of Laem Sing.

Cambodia and Angkor Vat: If you visit just one archaeological site during your stay, this should be the one. Part of UNESCO’s World Heritage list since 1992, Angkor, with Angkor Vat and the nearby Angkor Thom and Bayon does not fail to impress even the most blasé of ruin junkies. Angkor Vat was built for King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and capital city. The temple is the epitome of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag, and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors. The area merits at least a full day of exploration. Golf: The Soi Dao Highland Golf Club operates a demanding 18-hole course. It was designed by Dennis Griffiths and has been almost perfectly integrated in the surrounding landscape. Surrounded by jungle covered mountains, valleys and hills, this golf course is one of the most scenic in Thailand. Green fees for 18 holes vary between 1,200 bath (app. €25:-) on weekends and 800 bath (app. €18:-) on weekdays.
