The legend of the Blue Deer: The legendary Blue Deer of Lake Naomi was first spotted in 1868 by an Ice prospector traveling the Hemlock Trail who stopped at Lake Naomi to rest his horses and prospect. While making camp in the woods, VanAnders told an acquaintance at the New York Times that he witnessed a majestic blue deer bounding through the woods. The resulting hunt for the Blue Deer and its coinciding population boom is credited with giving the Lake Naomi Community its beginning. Despite many claimed sightings, and several false claims unmasked as clever dye jobs, the Blue Deer was never hunted. The Blue Deer House was built in 1966 on the original Van Anders campfire location. Keep your eyes open - some guests have claimed to find deer tracks on the Blue Deer House property, with a seemingly blue tint!
