Further details about this cabin rental
A note from your hosts:: If you are looking for a relaxing, unstructured vacation where the people are honest and friendly, the accommodations are clean and comfortable, and it doesn't cost a small fortune to stay, this is one of the few. Our rates are all inclusive except for Maine's 7% lodging tax. No extra fees here for pets, added people up to occupancy limit, use of kayaks/canoes, linens, or cleaning. Hope to see you here, Pat and Dave Vaughn
Spring at Prong Pond: Spring is slower to come here than what you are probably used to with ice-out on the pond in late April or early May. But it is a great time to see the ‘North Woods’ reawaken. New birds every day, a patch of snow gone here or there, fresh animal tracks, the land turning green again. Every day there is a changing palate of flowering plants in the bogs by the shore of the pond. The docks go in and the canoes and kayaks are available on the pond just as soon as the ice is out. With the snowmelt comes the only time during the year that some remote rivers are runable, the water being too low later in the spring. Please call or email us, we are happy to talk about our seasons and the fun you can have here year round. We can recommend outfitters or guides and discuss most any other aspect of your vacation.
Summer at Prong Pond: In summer, high temperatures range into the lower 80’s with nights down to the mid 60’s. Many of our guests use Birch Overlook Cabin as a base lodge for exploring our lakes, ponds, rivers, back roads, or mountains. Our grounds and abutting conservation lands are available for local hiking, bird watching and wildlife viewing. Prong Pond is a mile wide and 2 miles long with 11 miles of mostly undisturbed shoreline, excellent for canoeing/kayaking, fishing and wildlife viewing. Meet your neighbors and enjoy ‘smores’ at an evening campfire. Enjoy shopping, dining, strolling thru Greenville or the ‘3-hour-tour’ on the restored Steamship Katahdin on Moosehead. Two golf courses are nearby, as well as several marinas. We can recommend numerous day hikes throughout the area. There are Registered Maine Guides and floatplane services available for more remote adventures during your stay with us.
Other Activities: snowmobiling, xc skiing, snowshoeing, white water rafting, wildlife watching
