Lifestyle: We feel the Lake Chapala experience adds years to our lives and we certainly feel a lot healthier after returning. There is no shortage of activities to get involved in: walking, mountain hikes, golf, tennis, slow pitch, beach volleyball, theatre and performances, language and art classes, charity work, one to five day tours, and exposure to a different language and culture. Having said that, you certainly don't need to learn Spanish to get by. There is a short 9 hole golf course 5 minutes away with some breathtaking views of the lake and mountains. There is a longer course about 15 minutes away.

Climate: In short it is unbelievable. Because of being 5000 feet above sea it is very moderate. The average daily high in Feb. is only one degree lower than August. May is the warmest month. The rainy season is May to Sept. Apparently it rains almost every day then( evening) and by 11:00 in the morning you would never know it had rained. It is also the prettiest time of the year because everything becomes so much greener. Many Americans in the southern states go to this area of Mexico to get away from the extreme heat and humidity in the summer months.

The people: We have met so many new friends at Lake Chapala. The closest of our friends have ended up being from our own province, Ontario. The Mexican people have been nothing short of marvelous. They are very friendly and helpful in all ways, especially the staff at our complex. All the main shops and restaurants have staff that speak English.
