Further details about this house rental
Fisherman and Hunters: -The Deschutes River is well known for it's fly fishing and is one of the greatest trout, steelhead and salmon fisheries in the United States. Because of it's diverse aquatic habitats it offers incredible fishing year round. There is a large amount of fish that run over Sherar's Falls on fall and summer runs. Although it is Reservation Land it is always exciting to watch the Local Native American Fishers scoop the massive fish from the falls from their towers with nets. -There are numerous Wasco county fishing lakes such as Rock Creek for example that are scattered within miles of PineHollow Reservoir. -PineHollow Reservoir is heavily stocked all season and many trophy trout and bass have been caught from the bank! The annual fishing Derby on opening day promises to produce some impressive 'hogs'! The Deschutes Canyon is home to mule deer, elk , turkey, and other abundant game. It is well liked by hunters.
Oregon History: Oregon Trail History is weaved all through out the surrounding communities. Wamic was the last stop along the Barlow Road before entering the mountain section. There is a historical Oregon Trail marker in its place. Nearby Sherar's Falls Bridge was constructed to allow covered wagons to cross the Cascade Range to reach the Willamette Valley. The Fort Dalles army outpost/surgeons quarters still stands and is the home to the Rorick House Museum in The Dalles. Present day Horsethief Lake State Park was a stop Lewis and Clark made in 1805 and has some very interesting Native American artifacts. White River Falls State Park is great for picnicking, kayaking, fishing and hiking. The quarter mile trail takes hikers deep within the canyon to a historic hydro-electric power plant that supplied electricity to Wasco and Sherman counties from 1910 until the completion of The Dalles Dam in 1960.
Fun Events: The annual Dufur Threshing Bee is a nearby fun August attraction as well as the Wasco County Fair and Rodeo. Barlow Trail Rendezvous in Wamic features many fun events. The annual RiverFest Celebration in Maupin includes a 5k and 10k walk/run along the Deschutes River as well as a day of music, food and fun. Fort Dalles Days is a fun community event that Hosts an exciting Pro Rodeo. The annual Gorge Games in Hood River is a short drive away and also offers some fun, unique shopping and dining experiences. You will need more than a weekend to discover everything this unique little spot in Oregon has to offer!
