Fishing: Anglers from novice to expert will enjoy the fishing in the Stowe area. To find the best spots, hire a local guide and your sure to hook into some big fish. The local waters hold healthy populations of trout, bass and pike The Lamoille and Winooski Rivers are two of the more popular trout fisheries close to Stowe. The best times to visit are early summer and then again in the fall when the fish are beefing up for the winter. The smaller rivers in the area is where you’ll find some native brook trout, a small beautiful fish that thrives in the mountain waters. A mellower option which is good for families is to ride the Recreation Path as it wanders through forests and meadows beside the West Branch River. Weissner Woods is a 80 acres of land that has been preserved in its natural state for all to enjoy. Wildlife commonly seen in Wiessner Woods include partridge, thrush, grouse, falcons, and owls, as well as deer, fox, and an occasional bear or moose.
