Canoeing & Kayaking: The beautiful lakes and rivers of the Green Mountains are best enjoyed from a canoe or kayak. If you don’t have much experience, the American Canoe Association has certified guides that can take you out and show the skills necessary to enjoy a day out on the water. Within a short distance of Stowe lie many great rivers and peaceful lakes. The Lamoille and Winooski rivers wind through farms and forested countryside and offer excellent river trips. Lake Elmore is easily accessible and features a state campground and beach, and the Green River Reservoir is a pristine and undeveloped area, good for getting away from it all. Fishing: Anglers from novice to expert will enjoy the fishing in the Stowe area. To find the best spots, hire a local guide and your sure to hook into some big fish. The local waters hold healthy populations of trout, bass and pike The Lamoille and Winooski Rivers are two of the more popular trout fisheries close to Stowe. The best times to visit are early summer and then again in the fall when the fish are beefing up for the winter. The smaller rivers in the area is where you’ll find some native brook trout, a small beautiful fish that thrives in the mountain waters. If it’s bass you are interested in, check out one of the many lakes and reservoirs scattered throughout the area. The staff at Catamount Fishing Adventures is very knowledgeable and offers guided tours as well as condition reports on their website.
Biking & Hiking: Cottonbrook, Old Country Road, Stowe Hollow and Brownsville are some of the popular mountain biking trails in the area. They are maintained by the Stowe Mountain Bike Club. Several local bike shops offer guided tours to help you get out and explore the trails. A mellower option which is good for families is to ride the Recreation Path as it wanders through forests and meadows beside the West Branch River. You can stop to shop & eat along the way when you need a break. From mellow walks to soaring peaks, there are trails for hikers of all abilities around Stowe. Weissner Woods is a 80 acres of land that has been preserved in its natural state for all to enjoy. Wildlife commonly seen in Wiessner Woods include partridge, thrush, grouse, falcons, and owls, as well as deer, fox, and an occasional bear or moose. You can travel a section of the Long Trail to the Summit of Mount Mansfield, the highest peak in Vermont at at 4393’. Expect steep sections and incredible views from the top!
Ski: While Stowe is rightfully known as the Ski Capital of the East, there are a host of winter activities to choose from. The combination of magnificent Mount Mansfield and the old world charm of Stowe Village has beckoned guests to our mountain retreat for over 200 years. With an average snowfall of 22 feet, Stowe is typically blanketed in white from mid-November through April. Mt. Mansfield is Vermont’s highest peak (4395') and offers a wide range of terrain for every ability level. It’s well-known for the double-black diamond “Front Four” trails, but also offers some of the longest intermediate cruisers in the East, and a lovely group of beginner trails in the Toll House area. Spruce Peak is geared toward beginner and intermediate skiers and riders. Trip the night fantastic, and carve down the slopes of Mt. Mansfield under a canopy of stars. Whether you’re interested in fine wine or big air, Stowe delivers. It’s a multi-dimensional community with many interesting personalities.

Stowe Country Club The Stowe Country Club offers players a tour through the rich history of golf in Vermont . Located on a turn-of-the-century dairy farm, its clubhouse residing in the original brick farmhouse, this 6,200-yard layout will test the skill of any player. The 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains, the long temperate summer days, and the feeling that everything is going your way makes each shot a memory to cherish.
