One of the state's oldest communities, is known as the 'City of Mermaids' for its legendary performances in the world's only underwater spring theater. The city's name is taken from the Seminole Indians and means 'Little Spring,' but it's really not that little. The spring pumps about 168-million gallons of water every 24 hours. This community is one of the smallest incorporated cities in the state with a population of approximately 10,000. Located on state highway 19, a couple of miles north of Hernando Beach, Weeki Wachee is a quiet town located well off the beaten path. Local attractions include Pine island only 1.5 miles away, Rogers park only 1 block away, Jenkins Creek only 4 blocks away. It is also within easy driving distance from several of Florida's Gulf coast attractions. Disney is only 1 hour away, Bush Gardens 45 min, Hernando Beach 5 min, Clearwater Beach 45 min, Sponge Docks of Tarpon Springs 30 min.
