The elegant avenue we see today was made by émigré traders and merchants of the the colonial years who returned to Barcelona and built large townhouses designed by the leading architects. The result is unique, giving 'Passeig de Gracia ' the largest concentration of 'Modernisme' or art noveu residences in Europe today. Within 1 to 5 minutes walking distance one finds two major works by Antoni Gaudí : 'La Pedrera' (Casa Milà) and 'Casa Batlló' or by Josep Puig I Caldefalch like 'La Casa de les Punxes' or by Lluis Domènec I Montaner like the 'Casa Fuster'. We truly fell in love with the city, the culture and the areas relatively close to the city.. The Dali museum and Cadaqués! The taxis, metro and train added to the greatest pleasure of all, walking and exploring the city and museums. Fabulous! This has not only been a trip to remember, but we plan to return.
