New on the Highlands Rental market this year is The Snuggery! This Three Bedroom, Two Bath home with an additional 2/1 Guest House, sits up high on the Big Creek finger of Lake Sequoyah within the Town limits of Highlands, NC and is available for vacation rentals as of June 13,2008. The warmth of pine walls, floors and ceilings in this older Highlands home are sure to snuggle guests with charm and comfort. Located close to Town on a full acre; tiered gardens, water features, multiple decks, hot tub and a lovely Gazebo make outdoor living gracious and complete. The path down to the water is covered with a canopy of old Rhododendron and gives one a good workout. There are two single person kayaks and a wooden rowboat for guests to explore Big Creek, the new Island Garden (a work in progress) and the larger regions of Lake Sequoyah. As a state reservoir, swimming is NOT permitted in the lake but fishing, boating and ice-skating are all just fine.

Highlands, North Carolina is a wonderful 'small town' in the southwestern corner of the state. At 4100 feet elevation, there is rarely a hot summers day here in the mountains! Surrounded by National Forest land, there are no nasty major chain stores and only one fast food restaurant. For privacy reasons, we do not provide the street address.

  • The Bathrooms are a bit odd, but fully functional! In the Main House, the main level bath has a tub but no shower and the lower level bath has a small shower but no tub...For this reason, we have a great outdoor hut tub and an outdoor shower (yep, hot and cold) just off of the Master Bedroom Deck. The Guest House has a full sized, deep soaking tub and another small shower stall.

Because this is an older two story home with narrow doorways, those with physical limitations may not be comfortable. Main House Upper Level: The main house boasts loads of large windows overlooking the lake and high ceilings in most rooms. The upper story holds one bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a full bath with tub. A small but very efficient kitchen with side-by-side refrigerator, full sized gas range and dishwasher can help produce fabulous meals. Just off the kitchen is a bar/breakfast nook. The living area has a great stone fireplace, comfortable couch and chairs with a television and stereo system. The dining area leaves one floating above the lower level master bedroom and can easily seat up to twelve guests. There is also a deck just off the dining area.

Main House Lower Level: The lower level of the main house hosts a small bedroom with a queen bed, a small bathroom with a very small shower and a stackable washer/dryer, an office/workspace and a large open concept master bedroom (king size) with a shiny, red, wood burning stove for chilly mornings. There is a deck just off the master bedroom with a great hot tub for soaking your cares away and a wonderful secluded outdoor shower to make up for the tiny one inside!

The Guest House: The Guest House offers a small kitchenette with a small fridge, small stove with oven and sink. It has full size bath with a large soaking tub, a living/sleeping area with a wood- burning fireplace and a queen-sized bed. Climbing the ladder to the additional sleeping loft is great fun for kids or adventurous adults.
