Information about this house rental in South Dartmouth
Our house is on a ridge above a salt marsh on 30 acres of family property. It is at the end of an 1800' gravel lane. It is quiet, simple and beautiful. There is a big mown lawn for kids to play on one side, and the marsh spread out in front of you on the other. There are binoculars and a good bird telescope. We have dragged a mattress onto the open deck and spent the night watching the stars. We built the house ourselves 40 years ago and friends count it as a blessed space. We look forward to sharing it with you.

The house is at the end of a gravel lane through a tangle of brush and trees on a large piece of family property; there are no houses around. There are paths along the edge of the marsh and through the woods. We have a kayak and a canoe. There is shallow swimming in the marsh; you need to walk over shells to get there, or you can go to public beach, Lloyd State Park, in a 5 minute drive. Horseneck Beach is 15 minutes away. Shore birds and quiet abound. There are acres of public land with miles of trails within 4 miles of here. It is 5 miles to the general store and the local produce farm. It is 8-10 miles to a supermarket, liquor store, drug store.

- There are three bedrooms upstairs, each with one bed and one basement bedroom which is larger, with 2 single beds, but this is best for occasional use since it is mostly below grade. The property is so extensive that if more accommodations were needed, we could easily provide tent sites. This is a small house; what makes it work so well is that there are big porches on both long sides of the building so living is inside and out. It is so secluded guests can easily spend their entire time there without seeing anyone except, possibly, us as we come and go to our camp off in the woods.

The kitchen is small and can be cut off from the dining area with a pocket door.
We ask that dogs, though welcome, be kept out of the house because of fleas. If they don't have them when they arrive, they will be exposed to them within 5 minutes. Front Line does a good job on fleas.
