In the last few years we've re-learned the pleasure of board games with friends and family, leisurely drinks with no place to worry about going to, and reading magazines for no particular reason at all. This home and its location really make one slow down from the frantic life and de-stress. The General Store across the street smokes their own bacon, and there are orchards to spend a lazy fall afternoon in, and maple syrup vendors & cheese-makers abound. Of course adventure is never far either and we recommend evening sleighrides, skiing, horse-back riding, snowmobiling, snowboarding, hiking, swimming and exploring. There's even the high-jump in the river up at 20-foot-hole! Sleep tight.

Further details about this house rental

SOME OTHER LOCAL THINGS...: Local sites include the 80 foot Cascade Falls, the Ascutney State Park Trails, VAST snowmobile network, a gorgeous Alpaca Farm in Brownsville, golfing at Crown Point Country Club, horseback riding at the Green Mountain Horse Association in South Woodstock, trout fishing in the Black River (the north branch of which can be heard babbling behind our house), horse-drawn sleigh rides, hot-air ballooning in Quechee, great restaurants everywhere, Harpoon & Longtrail Brewery tours, moose-watching up at the wallow, and of course, SKIING!

Vermont MOVIES & stuff: Chevy Chase's 'Funny Farm' was filmed here ('Redbud' is mostly 'Reading' and Windsor), as was 'Forrest Gump' (Reading & Woodstock) & Peter Straub's 'Ghost Story' (Woodstock). Last summer THE SIMPSONS' MOVIE premiered in neighboring Springfield. Other noteable films in greater Vermont include; Alan Alda's 'The Four Seasons' (Stowe), 'Beetlejuice' (East Corinth), Hitchcock's 'The Trouble With Harry' (Craftsbury Common), Jim Carrey's 'Me, Myself and Irene' (Burlington, Waterbury), and Harrison Ford and Michele Pfeifer's 'What Lies Beneath' (Addison). A complete filmography can be viewed at: http://www.vermontfilm.com/filmography/index.php By the way, The Corvette Museum, Norman Rockwell Museum, King Arthur Flour tour, & Vermont Institute of Natural Science & Raptor Center are all great day trips (actually, you could do 2 or even 3 in the same day if you're not in vacation mode).

TESTIMONIALS: We had a wonderful time this weekend. It felt like a home away from home. The location was great for us as we skied and snow boarded at Ascutney. The general store was great...MMMMM... Connor had a great 12th birthday and we had a great weekend. Thanks again.' -- The B. Family, CT, Jan 2008. 'We had an absolutely wonderful time. The house was so cute and cozy. It was convenient to so many things which we missed the last time we came and stayed at the Ascutney Mountain resort. We got a lot of snow while we were there which made for great ski conditions. We also got in some sight seeing. Woodstock is a great little town... We look forward to making another trip to Vermont in the near future.'--Tara Z. & family, NJ, Jan 08. 'What a great place to stay - so comfy & homey. We had a wonderful time, spending snowy days in the village. Loved seeing the alpacas and eating at the Irish pub with the kids. Thanks for sharing your home .' -- Don & Sue S. & kids, MA, Jan 2008.

Ski: The largest single-peak mountain east of the Mississippi is Mt. Ascutney which offers fabulous skiing & a new high-speed detachable quad. ASCUTNEY is five minutes over to the next village, but if you want some real challenging and greatly diverse skiing, you'll have to check out OKEMO (15 minutes), KILLINGTON (20 minutes), SUNNAPEE (1 hour). For something smaller, SUICIDE SIX is a nice nearby family resort (20 minutes).
