Beaches: There are two beaches close by (about a mile) from the condo: '49 Black Sand Beach' is directly behind (southwesterly) from the unit. Check in with the security officer and proceed to the parking area. There are bathroom and changing facilities there. Follow the path past the volley ball net and you'll find the beach. The gaurd will tell you that the gate closes at dusk (so don't get locked in with your car)! The other nearest beach, is the 'Mauna Lani Beach Club.' Take the road back in the direction of the resort (from the condo) and you'll see the entrance on the left. This beach is great for families as it has a grassy area and the sand is well groomed all the way in to the water. Its also convenient for ocean adventures nearby. You need guest passes to access this beach, which are provided upon request.

Resorts: Most resorts welcome visitor's and encourage dining, shopping and exploring the grounds. Most have restrictions on use of the pool and require you to check in with the concierge. All of the surrounding resorts are beautiful and unique and well worth visiting.

Tours and Activities: There are unlimited things to do for any personalty type! The best way to start is pick up a pamphlet available everywhere: '101 Things to do in Hawaii' Many times, you may even find a copy in the unit. Another great resource is 'Hawaii Revealed' a paperback available at any major bookseller. Its best to pre-book if you can, sometimes there are special discounts for pre-booking on-line.

Ski: Mauna Kea Summit actually has snow during the winter months and snowboard and ski enthusiasts have been known to enjoy the conditions. Check with local touring companies that specialize in trip to the summit to receive more info.

Golf: Upon Request, you will receive individual guest cards for each member of your party. These cards can be presented at Mauna Lani Resort, surrounding stores, restaurants and facilities for discounts or other benefits. Call for information on Golf discounts and access to the beach club using your guest card.

Guest Book: We had a fantastic 5 night stay here with our family and two sets of grandparents. There was plenty of room for our larger group. The kids loved the pool, just a minute walk away. Everyone loved the nearby 49 Black Sand Beach. We are amazed that we could enjoy just an exclusive beach. (There are $6,000,000 lots there for sale, if you are interested!) We were an easy drive (5-10 minutes max) away from shopping and dolphins at Waikoloa, resort beaches and other amenities, body boarding (boards included with the rental!) at Hapuna Beach, and sunsets at A Bay. After seeing lots of breaching whales from the Mauna Lani beach, we got to see them up close on a whale watching trip that left from the Mauna Lani Beach Club down the street. And like others have mentioned, there is no beating watching the sun come up over the golf course (and over Mauna Kea) from the lanai. Thanks for a great week! I didn't think about work once.
