Village Amenities: The village has 2 boulangeries, 2 butchers, 2 banks, news-stand, corner market, pharmacy, 2 bars, a hotel, restaurant, doctor's office, design shop, church and even an art gallery. There is also a post office, gendarmerie, tourist office and a museum devoted to faience - the beautiful porcelain of Burgundy. Thursday morning is market day, and the owners have provided a traditional market basket for shopping just as the locals do. One block away is a fully equipped children's playground and village park with all the amenities for a picnic. A block further on are the village tennis courts and soccer field. The Canal de Bourgogne borders the village, and is only a short 3 block walk from the house. Walking to the canal, you will pass pastures where Charollais cattle graze. Meander along the canal's tow path or just relax and watch the leisure boats cruise on the canal. The village also hosts numerous fairs and sporting events throughout the year, including a marathon in May.

Wine Tasting in Burgundy: Wonderful wines are a hallmark of Burgundy. A 20 minute drive north takes you to Chablis, renowned for its white wine where you can sample wines from a host of producers in and around the village. The owners can provide directions and comments on 4 nearby charming producers that will offer guests a variety of tasting experiences. Heading south towards Dijon and Beaune, where you could easily spend a day exploring the historical capital of Burgundy, you can visit the famous vineyards of the Cote d'Or, home to such labels as Clos de Vougeot, Nuits-St-George, Pommard, Mersault, Chassagne-Montrachet, and our personal red favorite, Volnay.

Historical Sites: If you enjoy castles, the chateaux of Burgundy are every bit as enchanting as their better known counterparts of the Loire. In addition to the Chateau d'Ancy-le-Franc, you can explore the chateaux of Tanlay, Bussy-Rabutin, Epoisses, Commarin, Bourbilly and Chateauneuf to mention a few. Important historical chruches in the area include the Abbey de Fontenay near Montbard and the Basilique Ste. Madeleine in the charming town of Vezelay. Also recommended are visits to the medieval village of Noyers and to Flavigny where the film 'Chocolat' was filmed.

Golf: Golf is available at a course adjacent to the nearby Chateau of Tanlay, approximately 15 kilometers away.

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home with us. We found it very difficult to leave. It is truly a special place. The scenery, the people, the food and the wonderful wine would all take too long to recount. I'm not sure if you are familiar with the old BBC show Ballykissangel (a show set in a beautiful small Irish village affectionately called 'Bally-K', where everyone knows everyone).
