You have nearly immediate access to Playa del Carmen's best shopping, dining, and lively scene, but you are far enough away to maintain the serenity of your surroundings. The Cancun International Airport is only about 45 minutes from Playa del Carmen (30 miles). Playa has a small airport that mainly has service to Cozumel and some Mayan ruins, like Chichén Itzá and Palenque. There is also an international airport in Cozumel, from which it's easy to get to Playa del Carmen via Ferry.
