Ash Lawn-Highlands was the home of President James Monroe and is about a 5 minute drive from Monticello. UVA with its historic architecture and cultural events is a great day trip destination. Oak Ridge, Pharsalia, and Swannanoa are close to us. The Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway provide natural history.

Drive to many excellent wineries and vineyards close by. Several orchards make for fun and delicious trips. One orchard is a special mountaintop destination. Drive or bike along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The entrance to Wintergreen Resort is just 1 mile away. Nature trails and hiking trails are all around. Canoeing events are held in the valley. Fly fishing including instruction is available at Lake Monacan and otherwise in the valley.
