Further details about this house rental
Lubec, Maine: Lubec, Eastport's sister seaside village, lies three miles across Cobscook Bay, or a 45-minute drive around the bay. This quaint town is home to cafes, restaurants, B & B's, and art galleries. The weekly Summerkeys concerts in Lubec's hilltop Congregational Church are one of the delightful summer experiences of both towns. The concerts are free, the music is wonderful, and the home-baked intermission refreshments in the church basement are tasty. You can drive to the concerts, but the more memorable way of getting there is to buy a ticket and ride aboard one of Eastport's fishing boats to Lubec. Out on the bay, you may see moon and stars, or you may see fog, but you won't forget getting to and from the concert.
Campobello Island, New Brunswick: On Campobello Island, visit East Quoddy Lighthouse, Herring Cove Provincial Park, and Roosevelt Campobello International Park. The Roosevelt Park, jointly maintained by the United States and Canada, includes the 34-room 'cottage' of Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt, and many miles of walking trails along the bay. You can reach Campobello Island either by crossing on the bridge from Lubec, or by taking car ferries from Eastport to Deer Island and then on to Campobello.
St. Andrews by the Sea, New Brunswick: A lovely day trip is to weave your way among Bay of Fundy islands on two ferries between Eastport and New Brunswick, and then drive a short distance to St. Andrews by the Sea. St. Andrews offers seaside cafes, restaurants, and a wide array of shops on Water Street, along with numerous museums and the Kingsbrae Botanical Garden. If you want to extend your visit, you can stay at one of St. Andrews small hotels, or treat yourself to Scottish elegance at the old Algonquin Hotel overlooking the town. Your return is then an easy drive through St. Stephen, New Brunswick and Calais, Maine, and back to Eastport via U.S. Route 1.
Other Activities: lighthouses, whale-watching, kayaking, hiking, plays, concerts, Eastport Arts Center
