Further details about this cabin rental

Grindstone Island : Grindstone Island is one of the most unique places in the world. There are around 1000 residents in the summer time and my wife and I make up part of the 12 hearty souls that spend the full year. Wild life abounds, there are dirt roads (no license required) great for biking and walking. Potter's Beach is a fun spot to swim and picnic, as the water is warmer than most other places on the St. Lawrence.

Thousand Islands Area: HISTORY: A truly fantastic place the Thousand Islands was the playground of the rich and famous. It rivaled Newport, RI in the early 1900’s as the place to be. There were yacht races; the boats can now be seen at the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, castles built by such men as Charles G. Emery a partner in the American Tobacco Company. Two castles can now be visited Boldt and Singer. The owner of the Waldrof-Astoria in NY City built Boldt Castle. The Borne Family of Singer Sewing Machine fame built Singer Castle. A visit to the Thousand Island Museum in Clayton will put it all into prospective. NOW: A boat tour among the islands is a must, boats leave both Clayton and Alexandria Bay. For a truly unique tour contact Clayton Island Tours

Transportation to Grindstone Island: FAQ: What transportation is there to the Island? The best way is your own boat. Many of our guests have their own boat, which they may bring on a trailer. The nearest boat launch is on our neighbor island Wellesley at a New York State Park. There are boat launches in Clayton also. Please check with the Clayton Area Chamber of Commerce, for advice. The next best is to rent a boat at Clayton Marina, visit their website Please Remember That Grindstone Is An Island There Is No Bridge! Iggy Biggy can not be reached by car!!! There Are No Stores On The Island It Is Remote And Private.
