For a quiet, romantic weekend, or a week-long family adventure, you'll enjoy the comfort of modern amenities in this charming log cabin. Nestle in front of the huge stone wood-burning fireplace, or rock on the deck with an eye out for wild turkeys or deer. Walk the rhododendron trail in back to a mountain view - it's about a mile as the hawk flies to the Blue Ridge Parkway. This rustic cabin is located about 20 minutes to Boone, NC. Master bedroom on first floor has a queen bed and private bathroom. Upstairs is a loft area with futon, a bedroom with bunk beds and another bath. A queen sleeper sofa in the living room provides more sleeping space. Quilts, pottery, and hand-made branch lamps (by the owner) provide decor. Small field for play, but otherwise forested surroundings. Well appointed kitchen makes cooking easy. Satellite service for the flat screen TV. Well-behaved pets allowed. The cabin is 15 minutes to Boone with its wonderful downtown shops, concerts, and plays at Appalachian State University. 10 minutes to Friday night old-time music at the Todd General Store - or bike, inner tube or canoe rentals to enjoy the nearby New River (one of our favorite things to do). Visit West Jefferson, 15 minutes away, for a growing collection of craft and art galleries. You may even purchase one of the owner's hand-made 'branch' lamps at the artists co-op there. There's a beautiful 18 hole public golf course near West Jefferson. Walk a few minutes from the cabin to a stocked trout stream, or drive to dozens of other fishing spots nearby. The kids would enjoy the afternoon at Tweetsie Railroad, or Grandfather Mountain's Swinging Bridge and Habitat Zoo. In the winter, the ski resorts are 30-60 minutes away, and hiking options abound.
