Kure Beach Combines the Allure of the Waterfront with Must-See History

Although Kure Beach’s location on the southern tip of Pleasure Island may give away its biggest attraction, there is plenty more to see and do here than simply kick back on a stunning stretch of sand.

Whether you want to stake out a spot on the Kure Beach Fishing Pier or head offshore with an experienced captain, the allure of the big catch is everywhere in Kure Beach. However, once you start enjoying the delights of the waterfront, it may become virtually impossible to resist the stunning, white sand beaches that are just begging for exploration.

Since most Kure Beach NC vacation rentals are mere steps from the oceanfront, it is easy to fill up your itinerary with activities such as swimming, surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and sunbathing. But one thing to notice is that the beaches here lack the crowds you might find in nearby Carolina Beach, meaning Kure Beach is also ideal for sunset strolls or an afternoon of beachcombing.

While the ocean is certainly teeming with recreational pursuits, the Cape Fear River, which lies on the west side of the island and is easily visible from town, also offers excellent kayaking and canoeing opportunities.

As exciting as all these activities are, you simply cannot miss a visit to the Fort Fisher Historic Site to see the remains of one of the Confederacy’s largest and most technologically advanced forts. In addition, the North Carolina Aquarium and a pristine beach for swimming and wildlife-viewing can be found at the nearby Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, making this area ideal for an educational day trip.
