Further details about this house rental
Pemaquid Beach and Lighthouse: We are approximately 2000 feet away from a most gorgeous, fine-white-sand, Pemaquid Beach. We've been to Hawaii and Florida, and we boast that there is no better beach anywhere than this beach that you can walk to from our home-by-the-sea on Pemaquid Trail. The beach is tractor-sifted every night, and the facility operates a seasonal concession stand that sells good food and drinks. Our son has grown up playing on this beach. We offer some beach toys and also provide beach umbrellas and chairs for your day's enjoyment at Pemaquid Beach. Pemaquid Lighthouse is a picturesque, 'post-card' place complete with nautical museum and art gallery with ocean-view restaurant adjacent to the lighthouse. We've driven here in the early morning hours for the ritual-like rising of the sun over Monhegan Island. This New England lighthouse and its majestic, geological outcroppings will stir the photographer/painter/humanist in anyone.
Museums/day trips/evening Trips: The Owl's Head Transportation Museum (Owl's Head, Me.) is a magnificent facility to visit. Antique cars, trucks and planes abound and are this facility's specialty showpieces. The OHTM occasionally provides opportunities to ride in antique biplanes during specific times of the year. The Maine Maritime Museum (Bath, Me.) is another destination from which you will come away with a great appreciation of Maine's maritime heritage/history. The Farnsworth Art Museum (Rockland, Me.) owns and displays a large, permanent collection of the Wyeth family paintings (N.C., Andrew and Jamie) as well as works by many other artists. The Farnsworth constantly hosts shows of all stripes of artists throughout the year. Bowdoin College (Brunswick, Me.) stages live theatre productions and has a new recital Hall and museum open to the Public. The Rockport Opera House (Rockport, Me.) hosts many world-class music and operatic concerts through its Bay Chamber Concert series and master-class offerings.
Boating : Pemaquid Harbor provides free community access (boat ramp at the 'Fort') to the waterfront for all types of marine craft, from sail, motor to kayak. Re: kayaking, local rentals/guided tours are available in the towns of Pemaquid and Bristol. Tie-up for small, row and motor boats is facilitated at the Pemaquid town dock; however, the dock is seized upon by boats throughout the summer, so access is on a 'first-come, first-served' basis. Wonderful, sunset, puffin- and whale-watching cruises are offered by the comfortable 'Hardy' passenger vessel out of New Harbor. The Hardy Boat also takes day tripping passengers to and from magical, Monhegan Island 10 miles out to sea. Hiking the island's cathedral woods and coastline are breath-taking and memorable experiences. Finally, charter/touring boats operate out of nearby Boothbay Harbor. On such a day trip, you might charter a deep-sea-fishing vessel and return home at dusk with, if you're lucky, many flounder, strippers or even a tuna.
Golf: Wawenock G.C. is the local, 9-hole golf course. It is only 10 miles from our home and a truly fun 'patch' to play. Try it twice for a full, 18-hole round of golf. Guest reservations are required as members are given priority for tee-off, time slots. This facility also has a driving range. Farther afield, but still only a day trip away, is the world-renowned, Samoset Golf & Country Club (ranked '7th most beautiful in America' by Golf Digest). This is a world-class, 18-hole, 'Pebble-Beach-of-the-east-like,' golf facility on rockbound Penoscot Bay in Rockland, Maine. A round here carries a hefty price tag; but it is the proverbial 'once-in-a-lifetime' activity of your vacation in Maine and well worth the money and time spent if you are a 'tried-and-true' golf person(s).
Other Activities: Sunset, bird-watching, whale-watching and other types of ocean-going cruises and sport fishing
