North Shore Hawaii: It’s all about Surfing

Oahu overflows with enviable qualities; it’s not every vacation destination that has perfect beaches, a rich cultural tradition and unexpected delights like shark tours and waterfalls.

As if these weren’t enough, Oahu’s North Shore happens to be one of the best surfing spots in the world, attracting hard-core wave riders and vicarious thrill-seekers alike. To truly understand the allure of this island it’s necessary to at least stop in and see what all the fuss is about up north; catch a competition or catch a wave yourself, but don’t miss all the crashing and churning that occurs on the coast.

Professional competitions like the Triple Crown of Surfing hit the shore during the winter months when the water’s at its best, continuing to capitalize on conditions that have been attracting daredevils and their boards since the 1950’s. Be assured, however, that from Haleiwa to Sunset Beach, Kahuku to Laie, there are well-equipped beach facilities, tourist amenities and lots of comfortable condos and houses to ensure that no matter how rough the ocean, there’s always a place to relax on dry land.

The surfing component will draw you to the top of the island but typically pleasant activities like snorkeling, golfing and bumming around on the beach will keep you here for a while, so be sure to allow yourself enough time to properly enjoy this marvelously multi-faceted destination.
