Kick Back in Kihei
If you’ve made it to Maui you’re already ahead of the game, but there are still a few decisions to be made. Of all the regions and attractions you can visit, Kihei is one of the safest bets considering its location and inherent loveliness, so don’t be surprised if you end up here.
Located on the southern shore just north of Wailea, this region has a little of everything; great beaches for swimming, surfing and snorkeling plus easy access to golf courses, restaurants and shopping. Maui is renowned for its natural beauty so don’t forget your hiking boots – or at least a sense of adventure and a light rain jacket for those frequent, but quickly passing, showers that you may encounter during a bike ride or sightseeing excursion. Haleakala National Park is a few miles east of the Kihei vacation condo you’ll likely end up in, but the scenery makes it worth venturing from your comfortable digs.
For those days when getting into a car doesn’t sound appealing (which might be everyday of your Hawaiian vacation), find plenty to do at Charley Young Beach or one of the Kamaole Beaches, all of which are picturesque, inviting and protected from the wind. Reading a book or checking out the undersea life with the help of snorkeling goggles could easily fill a morning, and as for the afternoon, tropical drinks and a nap in the shade will probably do the trick.
Most condos and beach houses are just steps away from such idyllic scenes as these, and a slew of resorts are within a few miles. All in all, every need will be taken care of from a home base in Kihei.
