Wine and Water Sports Set Clear Lake Apart
While the picture-perfect scenery and relative lack of people (by California standards) may have drawn you to the Clear Lake Area for a relaxing getaway, it is the notable affluence of activities that is sure to have you coming back year after year.
Clear Lake is the largest freshwater lake in all of California, and as such plays host to a variety of recreational pursuits. Water skiing, jet skiing, and boating are just a few of the most popular, while the bass fishing here has been named the best by a few professional organizations (the bluegill, blackfish, and crappie fishing isn’t too bad, either).
You don’t even have to get out on the water to enjoy the great outdoors since Clear Lake State Park offers exceptional hiking and nature trails. The Indian Nature Trail is always a favorite as it winds its way past a former Pomo Village, or you can simply kick back on the beach and soak in the refreshing breeze.
Although everyone knows about the Napa and Sonoma wine regions that lie slightly south, there is an up-and-coming wine scene waiting right outside your Clear Lake vacation rental that any true connoisseur cannot miss.
Simply hop aboard your boat rental and make your way to the western shore, where you can tie up in a Mediterranean paradise at the Ceàgo Del Lago Winery. This boat-in winery is always an attractive option with its $5 tastings and award-winning wines (the Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are simply spectacular). Other more traditional options that you should add to your itinerary include the Brassfield Estate and the Steele Winery.
