Pioneer Your Own Path from a Boone Cabin Rental
Named for the famous pioneer and explorer Daniel Boone, the charming city of Boone invites you to discover your sense of adventure and bask in the beauty of the great outdoors on your next trip to Western North Carolina.
Boone’s location in the Blue Ridge Mountains means your options for active pursuits are virtually unlimited. Hiking is always the most popular option with challenging and worthwhile opportunities available on the Appalachian Trail and in the Linville Gorge Wilderness, which is tucked into the Pisgah National Forest between Lake James and Grandfather Mountain (another great hiking destination).
Winding its way through the deep and impressive gorge, the Nolichucky River offers even more opportunities for excitement on a whitewater rafting excursion. However, keep in mind that the weather in Boone is generally cooler than in other southern cities (average highs in the summer are only in the low to mid 70s), meaning you may not need to cool off even if you visit in the middle of July.
Boone naturally boasts other activities such as fishing and mountain biking, but golf is actually one of the bigger draws since there are three great courses within the city limits. While the 18-hole course at the Hounds Ear Club and the 9-hole Willow Creek Golf Course are two you might want to consider, the Boone Golf Club is the one to try with its lush greenery, rolling fairways, and breathtaking views of the mountains.
Beyond all of the natural attractions, Boone is also home to the Daniel Boone Native Gardens and the Hickory Ridge Homestead Museum. However, if you happen to be visiting in the middle of August, be sure to set aside some time to enjoy the annual High Country Bluegrass Festival.
