About The Old Tavern: Since 1801, The Old Tavern at Grafton has been providing visitors with timeless elegance and the finest comforts and amenities in a quintessential Vermont setting. The inn is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and is one of the oldest operating inns in the US. 46 rooms, including four rental houses, are individually appointed with period antiques and include private baths*, sitting areas and most with air conditioning. The Old Tavern is part of the non-profit Windham Foundation, whose mission is to restore buildings and economic vitality in Grafton Village, to provide financial support for education and private charities and to develop projects that will benefit the general welfare of Vermont and Vermonters. The charitable programs of the Windham Foundation are vast. They include a scholarship program, grants to Vermont non-profit organizations and special initiatives around critical needs in Vermont.
About Grafton: Grafton is one of the prettiest villages in Vermont. Many of its beautiful old buildings have been restored, so today's town looks much like it did years ago. Grafton is a real town with a vibrant and diverse community of 600 people. Grafton is centrally located between the popular communities of Woodstock, Manchester, Bennington and Brattleboro. Each season brings opportunities for a myriad of outdoor activities and attractions. Ski: Grafton Ponds Recreation Center offers year-round activities, which are free for Inn guests (including rental house guests). In the summer, Grafton Ponds offers more than 2,000 acres of mountain biking and hiking as well as summer kids camps. In the winter, it offers 30 kilometers of Nordic skiing (with snow making on select trails), snowshoeing, ice skating and a 600-foot snow tubing hill. Grafton Ponds is one of just two Nordic centers in Vermont that makes snow. The base lodge offers full rentals, clinics/lessons, retail products and refreshments. Grafton Ponds organizes a variety of special events during its seasons, as well. Call to inquire about its offerings and events: Local ski areas (downhill) include: Bromley Mtn(30 mins.), Okemo Mtn (35 mins.) and Stratton Mtn (30 mins.).
