Information about this chalet rental in Lake Eden

This beautiful Swiss chalet has been in our family for 50 years. We own 35 acres, 400 ft. is lakefront. The huge wrap-around deck, with its Adirondack chairs, overlooks Lake Eden and is perfect for morning coffee or afternoon board games. We eat most of our meals here or at the picnic table on the shore – just a short path away. Lake Eden, a glacial lake, is considered one of the cleanest lakes in the state. We have two docks (one floating), a row boat, 2 kayaks, and a canoe. In keeping with our Swiss heritage, window boxes and wildflowers are everywhere. A lovely babbling mountain brook entices kids to catch frogs and visiting dogs to get a cool afternoon drink. From the lake you can see Mount Norris, wonderful for hiking. A great blue heron has a nest across the lake. There are deer, fox, and we even know where to send you to see moose.

Information about the location of this Lake Eden chalet rental

Nearest airport:   Stowe for private planes, Burlington for major at 20 Miles
Nearest motorway:   rt 100 at 3 Miles
Car: necessary

This is a place to find yourself. We purposely don't have a TV or a VHS/DVD player because we focus on time together with family and friends. We play cards and board games (lots are already there), read (there's a full library for kids and adults), go for hikes, bike ride, have campfires inside and on the shore and roast marshmallows. We go berry picking (blueberries, raspberries or strawberries depending upon the time), fish (Lake Eden is stocked with trout and the biggest bass in the state was caught there in 2005), canoe, kayak and take the row boat and do lots of swimming. Our kids are never bored and they don't miss TV! There are two docks (one floating) and the kids love to race each other. Sometimes the older kids take a tent, camp out on the shore and cook their own breakfast. In August there are incredible meteor showers in the sky. Burlington (a very cool city) is an hour away. Montreal is two hours away and the resort town of Stowe is 20 minutes away.

Further details about this chalet rental

A World Away: There is a bench by the brook for reading and relaxing. Much of our time is spent outside. Late afternoon we enjoy the sunset, at night we gather for bonfires and to view the stars. The decor is traditional Swiss. There is a queen-sized bed in the living room with a view of the fireplace, two bedrooms (one with two twin beds which can be pushed together, the other has a single twin bed), and our attic, although not fancy, has 3 twin beds and a full sized bed where the older kids love to 'hang out.' We do allow dogs, but we ask that they are well-trained and calm. This is not a place for wild nightlife (although you can find it in nearby towns) it's a place of pristine beauty, warmth, and fun for families!

Lots to do: If you are seeking more adventure, there is hiking and white water rafting nearby in Morrisville and Stowe. Stowe also has mini golf, movies and live theatre, golfing and some of the world's best spas. In Stowe you can take a gondola to the top of Mt. Mansfield for beautiful views and a restaurant which serves lunch. Also, the mountain has an alpine slide. There's horse back riding in both towns too. And Trappe Family Lodge (of the Sound of Music fame) has evening classical concerts in their meadow. Lake Eden offers great fishing, as do surrounding streams and lakes. And for a real treat you can charter a boat and go deep sea fishing in Lake Champlain. Our kids each caught 4 huge lake trout last year, and had a ball doing it!

Guest Book: There you’ll find gourmet restaurants, including the Trappe Family (Sound of Music) Lodge, boutiques, and a fabulous bike trail which goes through pastures and beautiful woods. Stowe also has a gondola ride to the top of Mt Mansfield, a mountain slide, and a movie theatre. Over the mountain, the beautiful village of Craftsbury holds outdoor concerts on their green every Sunday evening. Throughout the area you will find loads of antique shops, and on weekends there are all kinds of events from auctions to country dances and fiddlers concerts. Our place in Eden is definitely God's country. One week of counting the stars in the sky, falling asleep to a crackling fire, and waking up to the sound of the mountain brook, and you and your loved ones will be new people!
