Rodanthe, Salvo, Waves, are 3 linked villages centrally located on Hatteras Island, minutes from Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk and Manteo to the North, and Hatteras Village to the South where you can drive aboard the free ferry for a scenic, comfortable 20 minute ride to historic Ocracoke Island. There you can enjoy browsing the shops in its quaint village, see one of the oldest light houses on the outer banks, dine at one of its several fine restaurants, or, for a small fee, travel on by ferry to the mainland at Wilmington, NC. Even during peak season, these communities do not have the traffic or beach congestion as the northern towns such as Nags Head, Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills. Yet either location is an ideal jumping off point to see attractions throughout the Island!
