Old Orchard Beach – Maine’s Premier Beach Destination

Do you remember the beach vacations of yesteryear? As a child, all you needed out of a family vacation were long stretches of sandy beach, perfect for building sand castles; thrill rides and other amusements; carnival food, the likes of which you normally never got to eat; and all of the swimming and running you could fit into each day before you fell, completely exhausted, into bed. Maine’s premier beach destination is the perfect place to rent a vacation house or condo and create the classic family beach getaway. Old Orchard Beach boasts 7 miles of coastline and the Old Orchard Pier, which extends nearly 500 feet into the Atlantic Ocean and is the center of recreational activity in the area. Next to the famous pier is New England’s last beachfront amusement park, Palace Playland.

Just to the west of town on Route 1, you’ll find even more to do, including two water parks, an amusement park, and plenty of restaurants and shops. Additionally, there are many special events planned throughout the summer just for the family, including festivals, fairs, street dances, and fireworks.

Weather

Old Orchard Beach experiences cold winters and mild summers, with the best months for renting a vacation beach home being June through September. The warmest month is July, with average temperatures around 83º F (28º C).
