Notes: There is a screened in front porch with two wicker chairs. The back deck can seat 8-10 and is ideal for morning coffee, or walk out the back deck to a footpath to the harbor and marina and enjoy your coffee watching the boats and harbor activity. The kitchen is a cook's delight with pretty china as well as all the gear for a lobster dinner. The living room has comfortable antiques, a fireplace and an abundance of books while the family room has a TV and is ideal for the children. It also has a pot bellied stove to take the chill off those sometimes cool Maine evenings. There is parking on the property and the house is on a quiet dead end lane. All rooms have cool breezes and full windows. The dining room is separate and is one of the prettiest rooms in the house. Rebecca's Cottage, for whom it was built by my grandfather at the turn of the century, is warm and inviting, with updated amenities, and has all the charm and personality one could want in a village home.

Further details about this house rental

Acadia National Park: The second most visited park in the US, has spectacular views and a 20 mile Ocean Drive along high cliffs and thundering waves. It has caves to explore, numerous hiking trails, and one of the highest mountains on the east coast to view as far as Canada on a good day. Carriage roads abound for bikers, stables have horses for hire and horse drawn carriages are available to see the inner carriage roads. There are several museums to get a sense of the industry and history of the island.

Bar Harbor: You can still see some of the splendor that was Bar Harbor at the turn of the century. The town is full of stores, galleries and fine restaurants. There are two movie theaters for those rainy days, an aquarium, whale watching and boat trips. The high speed ferry to Nova Scotia offers a day trip or overnight possibilities. Antique stores abound and the selection is tempting. White water and ocean kayaking is available. There is no shortage of activities on the island.

Mt. Desert Island: Hiking, berry picking, farmer's markets, scenery, sailing, golfing, tennis, shopping, theater, craft shows, music of all types, winery - this island lacks nothing, and all are easily accessible. The island also offers a free bus service that runs regularly and well into the evening, servicing the island for those times when you just don't want to drive. Have popovers on the lawn at tea time at The Jordan Pond House, or play cricket in Southwest Harbor. See the home of Hinckley boats. Have a cocktail and watch an ocean sunset. Be the first person on the east coast to see the sun rise from the top of Cadillac Mountain. Browse the local libraries and museums. Go to a petting zoo or grab an ice cream and watch the huge tour boats anchor offshore in Bar Harbor.

Other Activities: boating, kayaking
