The Wonders of Wailua

For obvious reasons, Kauai’s eastern shores are known as the Coconut Coast. You’ll be surprised by how easily coconut trees and other tropical accents will make you feel at home, and when it comes time to head back to civilization your only regret will be that you didn’t give yourself more time to enjoy the beaches, breezes, and bounty of diversions.

In addition to exotic flora and inviting stretches of shoreline, this region is blessed with a handful of quaint and lovely towns. Wailua is one such place; a visit here will allow you to be absorbed into a culture of relaxation and will put you in touch with some of Kauai’s - and Hawaii’s - most beautiful natural wonders.

Highway 56 will take you where you need to go (shops, restaurants, your vacation condo, etc…), but it’s recommended that you spend some time on another thoroughfare, too. The Wailua River will lead you past historic petroglyphs as well as to the mysterious and lovely Fern Grotto and Secret Falls. Whether by kayak or glass bottom boat, traversing this waterway will be a thrill that will further open your eyes to a region rich with personality as well as exotic scenery.

A bonus feature of visiting Wailua is the abundance of nearby attractions. Lydgate Beach Park, Donkey Beach and Kealia are great places to swim, snorkel and whale watch and they’re all just minutes away. The towns of Kapaa and Lihue are just to the south while Kauai’s magnetic North Coast is within a few minutes’ drive.

Stick close to your charming beach house or explore the island and be charmed elsewhere; no matter what you’ll be easily enveloped into a place of endless depth and matchless beauty.
