Details for The Farmhouse

The Farmhouse is located on the main drive to Strathtyrum House. To find: Approximately quarter of a mile from the outskirts of St Andrews on the A91, pass the main gates to Strathtyrum House on the left/west of the main road and turn left about 100 yards later. Coming from Cupar and when the golf courses are apparent on the left, there is a large sign indicating Golf and Information. 100 yards later turn right. Follow the farm drive for 200 yards and the Farmhouse is on the left. Parking is opposite the house.

Further details about this rental

Golf: The development in golf on the St Andrews Links over the past 150 years has been in no small part thanks to the Cheape family of Strathtyrum. Today the association with the past is perpetuated by names such as 'Cheape's', the bunker on the 12th and 17th fairway of the Old Course, and the 'Strathtyrum' course which was laid out on land sold by the late Mrs Gladys Cheape in 1986. It is also a fact that the Farmhouse lies closer to more holes on the Old Course than the R&A clubhouse itself! The practice grounds lie within a few minutes walk. Apparently, toward the end of the 18th century, the managers of the links were incapable of discussing even trivial affairs without the aid of wine, punch and strong liquor! Thus it was necessary to rescue the links from both drunken and incompetent counsellors and rabbit farming: and as golfers will testify, rabbits are not good for golf links! So, in 1821, James Cheape purchased the St Andrews Links: an act of perspicacious genius, and one that should be hailed by all golfers as they travail around the links. How much more pleasure we derive from the game of golf than from the doubtful business of rearing rabbits! Today the opportunities for playing golf in and around St Andrews are limitless! Quite apart from the 7 courses under the management of St Andrews Links Trust, other courses such as KIngsbarns, Carnoustie, Crail and Elie, to name but a few, are within half an hour's drive.
