Languedoc-Roussillon Vacation Rentals
A vacation in the south of France can be enhanced by staying at Languedoc holiday rentals or Roussillon vacation rentals.
Stretching from the border with Spain along the Mediterranean to Marseille in Provence, the Languedoc is known for being more affordable and less crowded than nearby Cote d Azur. In Languedoc and Roussillon it’s easy to spend an afternoon in a small village café, sipping coffee or wine and watching the people go about their day.
The Gard area is dotted with stone farmhouse and villa rentals that have enough character and history to make them a reason to vacation here. The Herault region is the home of the discovery site of the largest cache of dinosaur eggs in Europe. Montpellier’s medical school was founded in the 13th century and the city’s Musee Fabre is worth a visit.
In addition to sandy beaches, staying at a vacation rental or chateau in the Aude region provides easy access to historical attractions such as the medieval fortified town of Carcassonne and the gothic cathedral in Narbonne.
On the western edge of the Languedoc is the Pyrenees-Orientales area, which was once part of Spain. The topography of this region is varied enough to allow for skiing in the Pyrenees mountains or sun tanning on Mediterranean beaches.
